Your Work Life

Since work forms a big part of our lives, it’s not surprising that we sometimes face challenges that might require us to seek counseling with an objective person. Here are just a few of the issues that you might bring to therapy as they relate to your career:

  • A strained relationship with your boss
  • Anxiety and work stress
  • Difficulties with a peer or peers
  • Learning how to make the leap to the next level of managing people
  • Being let go from a job
  • Using substances to help cope with work stress
  • Uncertainty due to mergers or corporate takeovers
  • Contemplation of retirement
  • Difficulty managing priorities

And the list could go on. If you are finding yourself in just such a situation, then therapy may look a little more like counseling – “applied therapy” if you like. I have a unique perspective as a therapist and as a former senior executive. Whether you are a seasoned executive or you are an individual who is still growing your responsibilities, I believe that my ability to quickly comprehend and relate to the challenges presented in the corporate world will help me better understand and help with this and other aspects of your life, including your “inner world”.

My Background

I was a senior financial and operating executive for several years with very successful Canadian businesses in the marketing and travel service industries. The best part of my work in that field was managing, leading, and fostering the development of other people. It’s that aspect of helping people that has led me to become a psychotherapist: I shifted careers from the corporate world to psychotherapy because I really wanted to continue to help make a positive difference in the lives of others, and at an even deeper level.

I have served as a Board Member and Treasurer on several not-for-profit boards, including the Ontario Chapter of The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Word on the Street Toronto, and Altruvest Charitable Services. My university education is a BA, Hon. from the University of Guelph, and I am a Chartered Professional Accountant and a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario.
